Our Approach Our advice is free and confidential. We will take an open and honest approach with both you and your creditors to arrive at a realistic plan to start repaying your debt. We are always willing to answer your questions, but may not know the answer straight away. We will offer you assistance to devise a strategy to repay your creditors. This involves working out which creditors are the most important ("primary creditors") and which have lesser priority ("secondary creditors"). We then negotiate with those creditors to ask them to agree to a repayment schedule. This repayment plan may show that you will be paying back what you owe over a long period of time. Don't be put off by this - it is better to start paying off small agreed amounts to your creditors than be worrying when their next demand is going to arrive. Changing your current situation means that you need to be involved as fully as you can be. This may require you to make visits or phone calls to find out information for yourself. For example you may need to find out if you are entitled to claim a certain benefit, or check your entitlement to Child Tax credit. If at any point we feel that your situation requires a different approach, such as an Individual Voluntary Arrangement ("IVA") or bankruptcy, we will discuss this with you and may refer you to others who can help you. We will always value the fact that you have started to sort out your debt situation and are trying to work out a way to repay what you owe. |
